Lara's rehearsals before the Eurovision song contest in 1988 (rare video)

The 33rd edition of Eurovision Song Contest took place on April 30, 1988, in Dublin. Luxemburg was represented there by an 18-year-old singer Lara Fabian, which had been selected by the TV channel RTL, thanks to her first single "L'Aziza est en pleurs" ("Aziza is in tears"), written by Marc Lerchs.

This exclusive video from the rehearsals of Eurovision Song Contest was recorded by Mr Pierre Crokaert, Lara Fabian's father. On April 29, a day before the big finale, the atmosphere on the stage during the rehearsal is stressful, and the competition is tough.

A few days ago we heard the sad news that the world music scene has lost its Queen of Disco. Donna Summer passed away on May 17, 2012, at the age of 63.

The fans of Lara Fabian most likely remember her very well from the concert “Hitman Returns: David Foster & Friends” in Las Vegas, October 15, 2010. Donna Summer closed that show with her hit song “Last Dance”. (That night Lara Fabian sang “Caruso” and “The Prayer” in duet with Michael Bolton.)

But sharing the same stage that night is noway the only connection between these two stars. Actually, it leads to the early stage of Lara Fabian's career.

After the release of her hugely successful French album “Carpe diem” (1994) and the portrayal of Esmeralda in the French-Canadian version of the cartoon “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1996), Hollywood took notice of Lara Fabian as an amazing singer as well as a song-writer. The producer of the movie “Daylight”, starring Sylvester Stallone, entrusted her and Rick Allison to write the French version of the song “Whenever There Is Love”. The English version had been written by Bruce Roberts and Edgar Bronfman Jr. (as Sam Roman) and was featured in the original soundtrack. Lara Fabian and Rick Allison created the lyrics for “Tant qu'il y aura de l'amour”, which was performed by Donna Summer and Bruce Roberts. The recording of “Tant qu'il y aura de l'amour” was produced by the hitman himself, Mr David Foster.
